We have had so many requests for a tracker to track the segments people have completed on the Ice Age Trail. It is a great idea: the trail spans over 1200 miles and has over 100 segments, and completion is a lifelong goal for many Ice Age Trail enthusiasts.
But from a design standpoint, the task seemed impossible. Unlike the National Parks, which are fairly spread out across the nation, the IAT is one segment after another in a line across Wisconsin. And there are more complexities too: some people only track their journey on the named segments while others include road portions. And the trail is unfinished - we will see plenty of changes to the segments in our lifetime. How do you commit all of that to some decorative wood?
But I figured out a solution that is versatile, functional, and pretty elegant: this Ice Age Trail tracker separates the trail by county. Each named segment has a token that you can hang below the county name upon completion. For those who count th roads, I’ll include “road segment” tokens as well. I’ll also include blank tokens for future segments, or for tracking milestones that occur along the way.
As the journey continues, this piece will become prettier as the strands of linked segments grows.
YOU WILL RECEIVE:
1) The wood tracker labeled with the county names
2) Tokens labeled with named segments as provided in a list on the Ice Age Trail Alliance site, current as of May, 2024. Remember: the Trail itself is an ongoing project - Segments are still being completed. For that reason, you will also receive…
3) Blank tokens that you can write on to add new segments as they are added to the trail;
4) Hooks for hanging the tokens
5) Larger hooks for hanging each string of segments
6) An instruction sheet with segment list.
If you have special requests for the colors on your tracker, let me know. Otherwise, it will be yellow like the trail blaze color.
